Skill Achieves More Than Technique

Technique prescribes movement. Skill enables what we intend.

Why We Play

We don't play drums to perfect a movement pattern. We play for how it makes us feel.

Technique gives us ways to move. Skill gives us the freedom to adapt, express ourselves, and bring our intentions to life.

Skilled action and feeling aren't just the rewards. They are the foundation to the process that turns intention into action.

When Technique Wasn’t Enough

Why I Built This

After a serious hand injury, I spent six years struggling with debilitating tension problems, even with all my years of professional drumming training and experience.

That extreme frustration led me beyond traditional technique and into the study of nervous system science, embodiment, and the relationship between emotion and movement.

What began as a personal struggle became the reason behind Somatic Drummer.

The Science of Feeling

How It Works

Every beat emerges from a continuous interaction between brain and body. Sensation, emotion, and movement are shaped by our non-conscious patterns.

These nonconscious patterns are often what interrupt the flow from intention to action.

Somatic Drummer brings attention to these patterns, helping you explore how feeling influences skill and skill shapes technique.

From Tension to Transformation

Tension can interfere with your groove, coordination, confidence, and enjoyment of playing. And when bracing becomes habitual, trying harder isn't always the answer.

The Transformation Trinity offers three ways to approach these patterns: Dehab identifies and interrupts habitual tension, Rehab explores more regulated and coordinated movement, and Prehab develops adaptability when new challenges arise.

The goal isn't simply to eliminate tension. It's to expand your freedom to move, feel, and express yourself behind the drums.
