WHY:

When The Old Ways Don’t Work Anymore

I have learned to reverse my negative mind and body conversations through drumming. I embraced being a beginner twice; first when I started at age 13, and again on May 6, 2010.

That day, my biography marked my biology with severe tension problems, chronic pain, and negative internal dialogue. After years of struggle, it was impossible to ignore.

When the old ways didn’t work anymore, I abandoned the patterns that were drowning me, both as a drummer and as a human. Adopting the humility and openness of a beginner, I sought help, ask better questions and learned new tools.

Applied Embodiment gives me the tools of self-inquiry I use every day to make my unconscious, conscious. I am healing and growing into the me I want to be.

Self-inquiry empowers us to battle our obstacles, pain, and harsh emotions. The non-verbal language of rhythm and sensation enables us to discern our stress responses from our authentic selves.

Our stress responses are meant to protect us, not become us.

I love to play drums now more than ever because of Applied Embodiment. It is also why I build Befriending Your Practice and Somatic Drummer: to connect with communities who prioritize healing over hierarchy, nurturing wellness, cooperation, and individuality.
